Millhopper Road is a designated Historic and Scenic highway. It is one of the most beautiful roads in Alachua County. Take a drive on this wandering two lane road with oak trees and Spanish moss hanging over the roadway. At one end is the Devil’s Millhopper State Park and at the other end is San Felasco Hammock State Park.

Some of the most exclusive and beautiful homes in Gainesville were built along this roadway. This area is a haven for nature lovers, and the combination of preservation, wildlife, and access to NW Gainesville has made it a very desirable place to live.

The Devil’s Millhopper is one massive sink hole with a very interesting ecosystem. The steps down are easy, but climbing back up can be problematic if you are less than fit, so take your time.

San Felasco Hammock State Park is a 7,000 acre area with walking, hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. Wildlife abounds, and birds are everywhere. It is quite peaceful and beautiful.

There are several communities on this peaceful road but The Hammock is one of my favorites. The north side of this neighborhood borders San Felasco State Park. It is rare to find a lake in the Gainesville area, but there is one in this subdivision. This area will definitely attract the nature lovers. The community guidelines require owners to maintain lots of trees of their properties and to paint in natural hues so their homes blend into the surroundings.

The Hammock only has a few un-built vacant lots and resale homes don’t come onto the market often. Most homes here are custom built and architect designed, so walking through the neighborhood is a pleasure. The home sites were deeded parcels with at least 1.5 acres, with many having larger lots. The neighborhood is heavily wooded and the deed restrictions keep it as pristine as possible, you will see several heritage trees, including chestnut, hickory, and oaks.

There are 3 homes for sale at present, ranging in price from $364,000 (a distressed property) to $599,900, and one vacant lot listed at $192,000.

Our own listing, the 2.55 acre parcel is at the end of 53rd Ave. The asking price is now only $192,000. This lot is located farther back into the subdivision so peace and quiet are expected. You could build your dream home here and be amongst the North Florida wildlife and birds.
