Local builders show Gainesville a good time while we learn
I was a volunteer at the annual home show yesterday at the O’Dome. It’s an annual even hosted by the Builders Association of North Central Florida, a time for the people of Gainesville to come out and talk to people in the business about all kinds of things that relate to home improvement.
Having fun
As a greeter we get the fun job of making people feel welcome, answering their questions, and best of all – handing out those fun YELLOW hard hats!
There was a pretty good turn out over the weekend. It seemed like there were a few more people at last year’s show – but since the races were on I was really happy with the turn out.
Learn something you care about
This year an “Ask the Professional” series was added to the Home Show. There were five topics talked about on both Saturday and Sunday. Different people from different companies were the presenters, so you could get a variety of opinions on the issues you cared about!
- Ask the Gardener
- Ask the Remodeler
- Ask about Green Building
- Ask about Solar Energy
- Ask about Home Technology
Green Homes
It was interesting to see that so many of the vendors were showcasing the ‘green‘ aspects of their products. There was everything there from super-low VOC paints, and energy efficient pool equipment. I collected a lot of information for my own home, and I’ll be sharing what I find out with you!
Come back next year!
If you made it out please share what you learned over the weekend. If you didn’t make it, this happens every spring so keep your eyes out next year!
